The preschool room runs an amazing School Readiness Program. This program consists of teaching the children vital and much needed skills to best prepare them for primary school. In this room the educators focus on skills such as name recognition, literacy and numeracy etc

The 2-3’s room focus  on preparing the older children for the preschool room and simple skills such as colour, number and name recognition. This program is adapted to each child and their individual needs.

The 0-2’s room program mainly focuses on being a child. In this room they do lots of story reading, song singing. They also do lots of painting and creativity based activities. The educators in this room follow an individualised routine for each child daily.

Framework

The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) describes childhood as a time being, belonging and becoming. The EYLF covers practices, learning outcomes and principles that aim to allow children to expand their horizons and grow up to be confident, caring, clever and well-adjusted beings.

Being is the here and now. “Childhood is a time to be, to seek and make meaning of the world,

Belonging shapes who children are and who they can become. They can identify themselves by belonging to their family, cultural groups, neighbourhoods and the community.

Becoming is all about a child growing up and moving through each stage of early childhood. Becoming is all about children participating fully and actively in society.

The program aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework Curriculum Guidelines.  The preschool learning environment reflects the view that the children are capable and constructors of their own knowledge and the adults are facilitators and co-learners. Children are free to choose the areas of interest in which to participate throughout the day and the staff and children engage in collaborative decision-making about the equipment which is used.

Each day, experiences provided are based on the children’s interest. These include art, puzzles, blocks, dough, dramatic play, writing corner, construction toys, journals, computer, books, sand, active and imaginative play, gardening, storytelling and music. Children can initiate or continue their own projects and investigations that may last days or weeks. Some children may also be involved in collaborative projects with other children. Children will also have the opportunity to participate in group activities with either a small or large group.

The program and daily routine are flexible and recognise the individual needs and interests of the children. Visitors and incursions are also planned throughout the year to extend the children’s learning beyond those offered in the preschool on a daily basis. The family is an important part of the of the preschool learning environment and so you and other family members are always welcome to participate in the daily life of the preschool and are encouraged to spend time with your child at preschool.
